The Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI) has released an official update regarding the Core Principle subjects (CB1, CB2, CB3, CS1, CS2, CM1, and CM2), effective from the November 2025 examination session.

As part of its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of excellence, fairness, and global alignment in actuarial assessments, IAI has introduced important changes to the exam structure.

Key Highlights of the Announcement:

📌 Revised Assessment Format:
Starting November 2025, assessments for CB1, CB2, CB3, CS1A, CS2A, CM1A, and CM2A will consist of:

  • Multiple-Choice Questions (MCQs): 20% – 30% of total marks
  • Descriptive/Subjective Questions: Remaining 70% – 80% of total marks

📌 Balanced Evaluation Approach:
This change is aimed at testing both conceptual clarity (through MCQs) and in-depth problem-solving ability (through descriptive questions).

📌 Pass Mark Criteria:
Revised pass marks for each subject will be announced shortly by the Institute.

📌 Student Preparation Guidance:
Candidates appearing in November 2025 and subsequent sessions are advised to realign their preparation strategies, ensuring focus on both objective and analytical skills.

This is a significant step towards making actuarial exams more robust, transparent, and globally competitive.

The Institute also emphasizes its right to make further changes in the exam format, mode, or schedule if required under unforeseen circumstances.

We wish all actuarial aspirants the very best for their preparation and upcoming examinations!
