The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) has announced important updates regarding the use of the Formulae and Tables book in actuarial examinations.
In Autumn 2025, IFoA introduced the Formulae and Tables 2025 Edition (Red Book) with updated mortality tables and revised content. All April 2026 exam papers have been prepared using this edition, and the previous 2002 Orange Book should no longer be used for preparation or reference.
For the April 2026 exam session, candidates will have access to the electronic version of the Formulae and Tables book directly through the online exam platform.
- CM1 and CS1: Candidates may bring a minimally annotated or clean hard copy of the 2025 Red Book into the exam room.
- All other exams: No books will be allowed in the exam room.
- CM2 and SP6: Relevant extracts from the Formulae and Tables book will also be included within the exam papers.
From the September 2026 exam session onwards, the use of hard copies will be completely discontinued, and all candidates will rely on the electronic version available on the exam platform.
Students preparing for IFoA exams should ensure they use the latest 2025 Red Book for preparation.
