The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) has released the official Examination Handbooks for September 2025 exams, providing essential rules, timelines, and technical requirements for all candidates.
There are two separate handbooks:
- Remote Invigilation – For candidates taking exams online from home or another approved location.
- In-Person Exam Centres – For candidates attending a physical IFoA exam centre.
Key highlights for all candidates:
- Joining Instructions: Will be issued 9 working days before the exam (adjusted due to the UK Bank Holiday).

Pre-exam materials:
- CS1 & CS2 – available 10 working days before the exam.
- CP3 – available 3 working days before the exam.
- Exam day rules: Valid photo ID required, only permitted items allowed, strict adherence to IFoA Exam Regulations.
- Submission formats: Word (.docx) or Excel (.xlsx) only; file size ≤100MB; correct file naming with ARN.
- No post-exam changes: Editing, renaming, or password-protecting files after the exam end time will result in non-marking.
- Incident reporting: Clear processes for reporting disruptions, technical failures, or misconduct.
Additional for Remote Invigilation:
- Minimum hardware/software requirements, including Guardian Browser installation.
- Pre-exam equipment checks are mandatory for each exam paper.
- Stable internet connection (minimum 3 Mbps upload/download) required.
Additional for In-Person Exams:
- Centres provide Windows PC, Microsoft Office, R software (pre-installed packages), and single-screen setup.
- Invigilators manage disruptions, and QR code forms available for incident reporting.
