Are you feeling overwhelmed with how to start your actuarial preparation? You're not alone. Most students face time management issues — especially when juggling college, work, and study.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to building your perfect actuarial study timetable:

  • Step 1: Know your papers –  Familiarize yourself with the syllabus, exam pattern, and weightage for each subject like CM1, CS1, etc. Go through official study materials and examiners' reports to understand the type of questions asked.

  • Step 2: Allocate weekly goals –  Break your syllabus into manageable chunks. Aim to cover at least 3 chapters per week initially so that you build momentum and complete the first round of learning well in advance.

  • Step 3: Reserve weekends for practice & mocks -  Dedicate weekends to revising concepts, solving past papers, and taking mock exams. This helps simulate exam conditions and improves time management.

  • Step 4: Use color-coded planners –  Maintain a visual study planner where each subject is assigned a specific color (e.g., CM1 in blue, CS1 in red). This makes it easier to stay organized and spot any imbalance in your prep.

  • Step 5: Include buffer weeks –  Keep 2–3 buffer weeks in your schedule to cover any backlogs or unexpected events. This flexibility ensures that minor setbacks don’t derail your entire plan.

  • Step 6: Track progress bi-weekly with a checklist -  Review your goals every two weeks using a progress tracker or checklist. Tick off completed chapters, and reassess what needs more focus to stay on track.

At SMONK, we help students build custom study plans based on working hours, college schedule, and exam timelines.

Tip: Start early, track consistently, and revise smart. That’s how toppers do it.
